Guys,
The day we got back from Lameroo one of the guys suggested another trip to 2008 Nationals and we all said &*%^ off! A week back and maybe I will be up for it in 2009!
Birdy, I notice there is never any further comments of support or otherwise when you suggest WA!
IMH experience unless you come from NT or WA people have no idea what being remote or distance is all about!
My preference is NT again because its the centre of OZ - I am sure the WA mob will be in a quick fly to NT for the nationals.
When I get some more time or maybee one of the other WA guys will post a trip overview but in summary-
Bloody cold with head winds all the way, 40kts day one down to 20kts on the last leg to Lameroo! About 3500km all up and around 45hrs in the seat!
Ive had the pleasure of doing the West/East trip a couple times now but this one was the first in a gyro, the coldest and with the worst winds!
8 gyro's left Bindoon, one pulled out at Coolgardie due to time constraints and prop/rotor strike(Richard Brown-Cooper,Gyro Oz/Hirth), one suffered damage from extreme sink at Balladonia ( Murray Beeck EA81), One died close to Mundrabilla(Alan Stockdale Gyke 912S). Three gyro's flew the entire distance, Michael Richardson in his Magni(Rotax 914 Turbo), Noel Regnaud (EA 81) and myself (912S). Two others flew significant legs on the Trip - Malcolm Pascoe (Rosco/Hirth 2 stroke) and Glen Swadling (Rosco/EA81) .
The hero's of the trip were really the ground crew - Des Garvin, Cor Holl, Bob Shanks, David & Alice Pickard abley supported by Murray, Malcolm and Glen when they wernt flying. With out these guys we just would have gone no where.
