Stranded by a flat tyre

Just red a yank post re flat tyre, made me remember a time that caused me grief........

Missis and i were way out yonder, landed on a salt pan no probs, went walkabout, had some lunch, cup of tea etc.

returned to the gyro and noticed a tyre was flat........shyte, Luckily i carry a puncture repair kit, with a hand pump.

Our problem was, trying to break the bead..........bleedin impossible. Put the flat wheel back on to the axle, then taxied about trying to get the dam bead to let go..........no go. Pulled the wheel off again, and again tried to jemmy the bead.............after about 45 mins, it let go. Were then able to fix the puncture and get home.

So............you guys that get out and about, consider the problem...............have you got tyre repair gear etc etc. Coz one day it's guna cause you some grief.

My gyro now has a kit onboard.........1 can of that motorbike aero shyte [ plugs the hole, and pumps up the tube.....

A good puncture repair kit, spare tube, levers etc, and a made up bead breaker.......works a treat. And 3...4 cartridges of pressure air, 1 hand pump to be sure.

Without this........screamin down the strip on a flat tyre, trying to take off, is a recipe for more grief.

So think about your emergency kit...........has it really got the goods.

Re: Stranded by a flat tyre

Iv never hada flat tyre ..............have i bones.

I did hava tyre that had no air init one morn tho, and after bout 5 TOs i thought that nite id stuff it with grass. Wota waste o time that was. [ all the grass ended up on one side and it was ruff as guts, so i took it off and run on the rim for the next 2 days. No damage and its easier n tryn t TO with a flat.

Bugger carryn all that crap with me all the time, i recon iv only bin caught 3 times with airless tyres, over 10 years. [ and the ferel's cleared sum scrub taken off at times................ ay Bones.]

Re: Stranded by a flat tyre

You wouldnt be talking about the day we mustered Brumby, and had a flat so you let the other one down so the drag was even on both sides, so it made the 3 or 4 landings and take off easier for you would it??? and then had the nerve to kick me off the G spot so as not to have to push yours soo far to get it in the hangar...

Damn you i'm missing this year already
