Re: Cranbourne Flyin

Cheers Geoff, I see your fixed wing hrs are approaching your gyro hrs. Or is it the other way around.

Are you a certainty for Wangaratta yet?

I mounted the flashing beacon required for Aerodrome ops and re-instated my brake handle which had been off the aircraft for a while.

All I need now is a bloody radio system that will work for me.
I have a Raptor helmet, with PTT switch and modulator box, which helmet and PTT leads are attached to. It has never worked effectively or even at all on most occassions.

I would be most appreciative of any advice in this area.

Re: Cranbourne Flyin

G'day Mitch ...

Nothing is certain in this world mate ... It still hasn't let the ground but wont be too long - shortly after xmas I'm hoping. As far as hours up to get that far - not sure.

Radio. I used an Icom IC-A22E with Ultracomm II helmet into a 2 place Ultracomm intercom on the gyro. The only aerial I used was the 8 inch whip on the radio. This setup worked very well - very clear rx and tx. They're a little expensive but they work really well. I bought mine from Aeroshop

Re: Cranbourne Flyin

G'Day Rotor,

First TO just after Chrissy Eh!.. Keep us posted.

Called John from Raptor Helmets. This is the story.......

Helmet with Volume control, plugs into Modulation box fitted to gyro with cables to PTT switch and plugs into VHF Radio.

Most GA head sets have the amp/modulation device built into the head set.
The set-up I have (remote modulation box) allows for UHF to plug in also.

The trouble I have been having I am told is because the 'Jack' plugs are often cluttered up with shrink wrap or plastic mouldings to far up the pin, not allowing for the 'jack' to seat it self fully. The fix then is obvious.....cut away about 1-2mm of the casing/wrap and ascertain if the plug now seats correctly.

Let's hope it is this simple!

Mitch.

Re: Cranbourne Flyin

G'Day Gents,

Lyn and Jade (Geoff Jamieson's Ex and Son) are going to be visiting Cranbourne airfield on this Saturday 1st December, 2007. (This is the site where Geoff and Tim came to grief.) They are comming to pay their
respects. The Large hanager has been named the Geoff Jamieson Hanger.

I believe Keith Jamieson will be attending also.

Anyone wishing to come and spend some time with Jade, Lyn and Keith, please, you are very welcome.

Bill and I will be their with our Gyros and we may have a few of Geoff's old fixed wing Mates pop in.

Mitch.

Re: Cranbourne Flyin

G'Day Gents,

Bill Hills came up from down south and we had a gyro in the air Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Bill decided to take up our offer of a bed and company , rather than staying at the Club House. I enjoyed the flying (for the most part) and Bill's company very much.

Keith, Lyn and Jade came to Cranbourne to pay their respects. It was a sad and moving couple of hrs as family and friends re-visted the accident site and discussed Geoff and Tim's passing. One of the hangers is named the Geoff Jamieson Hanger. There are two gyros currently housed in that hanger.

The big news is Keith Jamieson has agreed to attend the Wangarratta Nationals with me and Sonny Jeffers (ex USA). Keith Jamieson is a gyro pilot, builder, prop carver of considerable and historical note.

I decided after being asked, that I would fly a little demo for Keith. Elise said, he had tears in his eyes and he kept telling those around him, "That's Geoff's first student you know." When I exited the aircraft and made my way towards the club house, Keith told me I was "definitely starting to get it now." Good thing he did not see my atrocious landing Sunday morning, with that wicked easterly off the trees. Bill and I could not believe it. All was dead calm and looking spectacular, got the gyros out of the hanger and bang 0715 hrs a 15-25 knot Easterly 'rotored' in over the 'tiger patch'.
I went up to check it out and flew the shortest circuit I could....let the speed get too slow (Last look before readying for flare 27 knots) and got it a little out of shape..Hmmm Patroney Blades, can't say enough about them.

There were lots of people through the place this weekend which was great, Geoff and Tim would have loved it.

I put 3 3/4 hrs on The Butterfly this weekend again in windy conditions. Today in between rain periods was dead calm.

I'm looking forward to Bill comming back up to Cranbourne soon.

What do you guys think about having a memorial of some description for ASRA Instructors killed whilst conducting official ASRA training of Student Pilots?

Mitch.
