hi im jeff new to gyros need all the help I can just moved to tara qld been watching the locals fly there is no shortage of space to fly also looking for bensen gyro plans or others to build first gyro thanks jeffro

Hi jeffro and welcome to the forum.

Not sure where you can get plans to build but there have been quite a few cheap second hand gyros on the market lately. I guess it depends on whether you want to build or fly - but some one is sure to be able to help you. I'd say a Rosco copy or something similar is what your chasing. Anyway, have a browse through the "Classifieds", might just have what you want.

Have you done any flying - FW or rotary ??

like to build first that way I can get to know more about them & can use any usefull idea that might be handy plus it will give me time to learn to fly as ive never flown these only been up in planes . plus with building for me I get a better idea of how every thing works

A word from the (now) wise regarding building your first gyro....don't do it.

Six years ago I thought much the same as you. I am only just getting close to finishing my gyro.

Unless you have someone else who has built a gyro or two as your next door neighbour, the learning process is painfully slow. You will need to learn far more than you think. Even a presumably simple thing like drilling a hole is much more complex than you think! I have a pile of unusable material in my workshop as a testimony to my learning process.

My suggestion is buy your first machine. Hang with the guys, and when your not flying discuss building techniques and tips. After that you should have a better idea of what you are in for, and what sort of machine you want to build.

There are some pretty good machines available at the moment that will cost you less than the materials to make one. Wish I had of done it that way now..

When it comes to gyros. it is better to know how everything works BEFORE you start building... :-)

What about a kit, where everything is predrilled, like the RAF used to be?
