Hub bars

Is there a standard size for Hub Bars, "length x width x thickness" or do all manufacturers make there own to suit themselves?

Re: Hub bars

Scorpion,

No such thing as a standard size hub bar, not since the Bensen Hub Bar anyway and I believe even that changed when he went from glider to powered gyro, from timber to alloy blades etc.

AUW and disc size/chord width, blade stiffness, has a lot to do with how a blade manufacturer produces a hub bar to suit, ie: length, thickness and pre bent bar for coning angle etc.

Cheers,

Mitch.

Re: Hub bars

Also, Jeff was trialling a thicker hub bar so it depends on the maker. Once you get over 26 ft diameter and flying a reasonably heavy gyro like a 2.2 suby with a pod and a heavy pilot, you want a 1 inch thick hub bar or thicker .

Re: Hub bars

The reason I have asked this question is I'm looking at accessing Titanium in a finished size for my rotor hub.

It looks like I will be going for a 27mm x 63.5mm x 600mm which is the size Rob Patroni uses for his blades and I will be using them also.

Re: Hub bars

Sheesa!

Dont know about it's suitability or otherwise but I reckon it'll cost.

Have you a price quoted on said item?

Re: Hub bars

Hi Mitch,

I've been quoted $220 plus freight. Its more expensive than 6061 T6 but it's bullet proof compared to alloy.

Re: Hub bars

That's an alright price Graeme.

What's Rob got to say about the match up..titanium hub bar and his blades?

What of the pillar block?

Interesting.

Cheers,

Mitch.

Re: Hub bars

Mitch,

Rob has been considering using Titanium for some time but was turned off by the prices he had been quoted here.

I'm getting together a list of parts for the rotor head to see how they price up in Titanium.

Re: Hub bars

G'Day Graham,

Excellent! Keep us posted. I will have to look up the properties of titanium now and have a 'yak' with Rob soon.

Cheers,

Mitch.
