Re: blade stringing problem

I feel for anyone freightn anythn in this country.
You only need one FIF [ fu^%wit ina forklift] to git within a hundred miles of a rotor and he'll manage to damage it sumhow.
Was talkn to a CAAM yesterday and asked him who freights his certified heli parts, and he said " i may as well use camels, coz theyd be quicker and safer."

I think if the freight Co.s payed the insurance premiums on wot they are carrying, thered be alot more responsability taken, [ like sticken the fork up the FIF's ass] but as it is, their attitude is " its insuered so wots the problem?"

Re: blade stringing problem

The packageing and the blades showed signs of Forklift attack. I didn't know that I needed to tune the rotor by playing with the bolts. That should do the job, thanks Bruce!

Both out of stringline and out of pitch will put the blades out of balance. - Stringline affects the chordwise balance and pitch affects the spanwise or longitudinal balance. The actual spanwise alignment (stringline) is approx half the error that you normally see because the effective alignment is measured from the C of M of each blade, not the tip.
What this means is that if your tip to tip alignment is 3mm out at the center then the C of M of the rotors is only 1.5mm out. This can often be corrected with teeter mushroom shims when the bolts do not allow enough corrective adjustment.

Re: blade stringing problem

Thanks Tim, thats what I wanted to know. If playing with the bolts dosn't work, I will play with the fibre washes.

Re: blade stringing problem

In order to correct the stickshake I had with my Goodwin rotors I had adjustable mushrooms made. The large part of the mushroom is screwed onto the centre tube with a 1 mm thread.
1mm = 40 thou per turn, so by loosening 1 side and tightening the other the rotor is adjusted.
The large part is split and has a cap screw to tighten thread to lock it.
It made cordwise adjustment very easy.
Regards all
Bruce

Re: blade stringing problem

Did the losening of bolt thing and putting on side and tightening. work perfectly. unfortunatly can tell what the results are because I flew into a washing machine. more interseted in flying than shake. next time might be a bit calmer

Re: blade stringing problem

Tim,

There's nothing sinister or any skeletons in the closet about my question.

I new a Trawler fisherman on the mid north coast of NSW with the same name back in the early 80's and I had a feeling he moved to NZ, but I'm not totally sure. RA's Graeme Clarke is also involved in the seafood industry and the age is about right,so my curosity got the better of me.

Re: blade stringing problem

The washing machine was flying in a steep sided valley. It seemed calm on the strip, as soon as I got in the air got hammered by turbulence from the westerly which was blowing at right angles to the valley. The wind got up a lot over the 3 circuits I did.
I have only spent 4 days in your great country. Looked at fish farming at Port Lincon.
