ASB-912-051

ASB-914-034

ASB-912-051UL

** Important Note!
Rotax releases separate Service Bulletins for non-certified engine models.
These service bulletins only contain information regarding the
non-certified engine models affected by the service bulletin.
Full service bulletin information and instructions are found in the
certified service bulletin (without the UL designator).
Owners and operators of non-certified engine models must download and
review both the certified and UL versions of the service bulletin to
obtain complete service information. This e-mail update is provided as a
free service to registered users.

SERVICE BULLETIN SUMMARY:
THIS SUMMARY IS GENERAL IN NATURE AND ARE NOT INTENDED TO REPLACE THE
INFORMATION PROVIDED IN THE SERVICE BULLETINS.
ALL OWNERS, OPERATORS AND MAINTENANCE PERSONNEL SHOULD OBTAIN AND
CAREFULLY REVIEW THE FULL TEXT OF EACH SERVICE BULLETIN.

In a limited number of cases, certain conditions may lead to increased
wear on the camshaft and/or hydraulic lifters. Examination of the amount
and consistency of the residue captured on the engine magnetic plug can
help to determine if increased camshaft / hydraulic lifter wear is
occurring.

Owners and operators of all affected engines must have the engine magnetic
plug inspected as per the schedules set out in the Alert Service
Bulletins.

IMPORTANT NOTE!
Section 1.1 of the Alert Service Bulletins (Engines Affected), sets out
certain serial number ranges where compliance with Section 1.5a
(inspection of magnetic plug prior to engine installation or first engine
start up) has already been accomplished prior to engine delivery. Please
note that these engines must still comply with all of the remaining items
found in Section 1.5 - Compliance including a one time inspection of
magnetic plug within the next 5 hours of operation and inspection of the
magnetic plug at each engine oil change thereafter.

If owners or operators have any questions regarding the engine serial
numbers affected by this Alert Service Bulletin or the specific compliance
steps required for any particular engine serial number, they should
contact their nearest authorized distributor or service center as soon as
possible.

SERVICE NOTE - REMOVAL OF MAGNETIC PLUG!
Field experience has indicated that extra care must be used when removing
the magnetic plug. To prevent damage to the magnetic plug, removal of the
magnetic plug should only be attempted using a high quality (i.e. Snap-On
brand) TORX 40 driver. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO REMOVE MAGNETIC PLUG WITH AN
ALLEN WRENCH ON AFFECTED ENGINES!

For additional instructions or assistance with magnetic plug removal,
please contact your nearest Authorized Service Center.
