Re: 2009 Nationals!!

It's a pity about Tassy mate ...

I thought you had it in the bag

Western Australia will also be a long drive over the Nullabor and what with the high cost of fuel .... it'll cost a pretty penny for those wishing to travel across.

I'd like to see the price of towing a gyro over compared to the ferry costs you organised

As a matter of interest - how many people all up did you get that would more than likely attend mate ??

Oh well .... looks like it's Narromine next year then doesn't it ....

Re: 2009 Nationals!!

Rotor,

Mate you are a champion! Thanks for trying to drum up some interest. I appreciate your efforts.

Not sure who the other 4 people are that indicated yes on here, I was one of the 5. There was Mark on the ASRA forum. Allan and a couple of others from QLD. Then Bill from south of here. Unfortunately, not enough indicated their intention to come, so the TT Lines package would not be offered.

I spoke with Bill last night and he and I intend to get together for the Easter long weekend as planned at the Clarence Point Lodge and invite local Tasmanian fixed wing groups.

Due to the cost of fuel and 'that little stretch of water t'ween here and there' , this local event may become Northern Tasmania's yearly must do I mean......flyin to attend.

Re: 2009 Nationals!!

Hey Rotor,

You fly on down here Mate, we are still having our own local flyin.

What's going to happen to the CHAMPIONSHIPS Now!

There cant be any trophies for competitions and no National Champ. What do we just drop the 2009 off the main trophy?

Fact is Geoff, I did not call TT Lines today, I thought since we've got the weekend ahead of us with a possible board member having resigned, I'd leave it till; the dust settles on Monday or Tuesday.

Personally I'm still in favour of having the ASRA National Championships here. We have the facilities and no one else wants it.....not even that bunch who hold their own 'Nat's every year, on some blokes property out the back of NSW. Why dont they put their hand up. That's not really a question. I believe I know why.

If we cant get gyro nuts to support any Nationals, then Narromine is where I'll be from 2010 onwards,
with a Monarch doing MLS takeoffs and GFLG dropins...........and making SALES

Fly Safe.

we're probably jumping the gun here but I'd hate to think that the yearly Nationals peter out .....

who might I ask is thinking of resigning? and what bearing would this have on the Nats in Tassie?

Well if no one else is putting their hand up I don't see why it can't be held there either given the time frame ...

Not so stupid me thinks .... business wise Narromine could prove to be very positive as far as sales go - people go to see what's on offer .. and I'd bet that you wouldn't have the only production gyro on show

Cheers

Re: 2009 Nationals!!

Just got a email from Allan Murray, says he was likely going to bring one maybe two gyros. Apparently sent a email on the 28/7 but I never recieved it....otherwise we might not be having this dialogue.

If Allan was to bring two gyros well we are not that far off 10 are we.

As to the Board member .......I'm sure he will advise....

How it affects a Nats in Tassie....Dont know! It's just part of the current 'mix'.

Re: 2009 Nationals!!

G'Day Fellas,

Had a sit down with Andrew Roberts, owner of the Clarence Point Lodge.
This is the venue for the Nationals, 2009 ( Thanks Rotor!)

Andrew will have a package of room prices and discounts for longer stays etc. The Lodge has a great main lounge bar area for a Sunday night dinner and presentations. Fine dining is available though generally a BBQ type breakfast/lunch/dinner will be the norm.

What I can tell you at this time is that TT Lines (Spirit of Tasmania) Ferry require a $40 deposit upon booking your passage. The documentation originally supplied stands. It is cheaper to sail on a day sailing of given dates, though travel at anytime in and around this period is fine, though allocation is still essential. The next two weeks we will be able to provide a more specialized booking format from TT Lines and Andrew from the Lodge will provide his package.

The lodge will be able to provide 8-10 double rooms generally $110 per night. Discounts for longer room stays.

There are 6 powered caravan sites more if reqd.

Camping area further removed from the central facilities areas, for camp fires, tents and RV's with their own 'genies'.

There are toilets and showers available and we will place two porta-loos on site.

BBQ Breakfast Lunch and dinner under the marquee.

A mini bus is available. Fuel may likely be available on site.

More caravan sites/camping at Kelso 5 mins drive. Greens Beach with golf course, caravan/camping, shop, fuel, fast food, National Park with majestic cliffs and Bass Strait with beaches highly suitable for exploratory strafing, 10 minute drive.

Beaconsfield 10 minute drive.....Doctor, Police, Community Hospital, Ambulance, Gold Mine, Supermarkets, Fuel Stop, Three Pubs. Chinese Restaurant

Beauty Point 8 minutes drive....Maritime College, Dock, Platypus Farm, Sea Horse Farm, Pubs, Restaurants, Cafe's.

GeorgeTown 2 minutes by air. Lots of spots to visit by air.

Launceston 45 - 50 mins by road......City with all facilities
GeaorgeTown 40 - 45 mins by road......Modest Regional Centre with airfield.

I have requested ASRA be able to run some gyroplane specific video material on the ferrys, long shot but the Manager of Res and Special Events is taking that to TT Lines Management.

Both Andrew from the Lodge and TT Lines want to help promote this event. Whilst this is great news, ASRA Board need to be ready to advise what means and the extent to which these other parties can advertise.

Next two weeks we will have the complete picture, with answers to most if not all your questions, so please, let's just hold off with very specific questions.

No doubt if you asking about other more general info I'd be happy to obolige or point you in the right direction.

Cheers,

Mitch.

Re: 2009 Nationals!!

Great stuff Mitch, the amount of work you have done to secure the Nationals is a credit to you.

Thinking ahead a bit, I know you are worth 10 men but you are going to need a few other hard workers and its probably worth putting together a list of helpers and start on securing their services. I reckon there will be a few very good minds there that will not have their gyros and they would be invaluable for the day to day gyro activities.

Whens Easter next year ?
