Dropping Federal Government Fuel Excise for Sports Aviators

Yesterday I attended a fly in at the Smokey Creek airstrip near Jambin. On the agenda was a discusion about Federal Government Fuel Excise. Under current legislation the excise is meant to be applied to vehicles that make use of our roads and as a result aviators are not really bound to pay fuel excise (around 40 cents per litre at the moment). The problem apparently lies in the fact that the fuel companies are not willing to acknowledge that they are supplying fuel to small aircraft - not sure why (but thats another subject)

As a result the Callide-Dawson arm of the RAA have petitioned their organisation to fight for the fuel excise to be dropped for their organisation. This may or may not have a flow on effect to us and the SAAA - I'm not sure. The Callide-Dawson have a bit of pull in the RAA and it was this area that origionally motivated their organisation in the push for cheap insurance - which as we all know was a huge success.

Having said this, I think ASRA should also look at what the RAA are doing here and maybe support their actions by jointly approaching the Federal Government. If not then at least take the fight on themselves so that we may have the same excise free privileges that the RAA could soon find themselves with.!

Yes or No ?

Re: Dropping Federal Government Fuel Excise for Sports Aviators

Here in the USA we were at one time paying $0.60 pre gallon tax and that was when it was at $0.98 totle per gallon.
I don.t know what it is know but I am sure its to much.
We also pay a personal property tax on every thing we own, including our pet dog, realy.
So anything you can do to get some relief is great in my book.
Lots of luck
Sonny
