Local Conditions- Tell Us About Your Airstrip

Hi Again
We all fly from many different locations, all with local conditions to consider.
Share something about your local strip and how you cope with the challenges it has .

I'll start
Denman Runways 09/27
27 up hill, and 09 down hill
27 also has a mountain 300 foot high half mile to west
prefer to take off on 09 ( no surprise there) even with tail wind
Westerly wind cause rotor on the western end of the strip, so tend to land as far to east and then taxi thru the rotor.
The rotor is not so bad if your fresh early in the day, but late in the day after a few hours flying, it'll catch you out when you least expect it.

Its a hole new world Ross.
Be'n able to get off inside 40 paces with no wind.
But its not rocket science, just a RAF preroter.

Hi Ross - here's our local strip that you may remember, Lethbridge. It hardly encourages a short takeoff technique.... Shortcomings are Saturday BBQ FW pilots in tail-draggers with no forward vision, no radio and no recent flying.

Gee's the last time I flew in to Lethbridge I needed an umbrella, and heater
Great place and true ultralight haven.

Birdy, there is no doubt that a Raf pre rotator set up correctly is as good as the Magni one which is the best I have used to date, 200rrpm easily and 220 with a bit more time and wear and tear on everything.

The downfall with the way Raf set it up is that there is no leverage to apply enough pressure early to stop the slippage which creates heat which lessens the efficiency of the clutch material. I am sure all you guys have had slipping clutches in stuff.

If I had stayed with raf I was going to use a motor bike front brake hydraulic lever and slave cylider as Ken J did. Ken was getting over 200 rrpm easily.

I am hoping that my soft start electric that takes 30' heavy blades to 170 rrpm in still air will be ok and it keeps the weight up higher.

Here's the other place I fly out of ...YMMB Talked to a GA guy this week who used to fly a VH reg J2 from here. He was not very popular with the traffic controllers due to the long pre-rotating phase. Sure would be nice to get a VH-Experimental gyro... Is anyone working on this?

If they would let me fly it on my ASRA certificate I would do a Firebird that way.
