Re: Airspeed in a turn

My thought on it is, only my thoughts, is if you use too much rudder and dont load up the rotors to get them spining up, then yes you will loose height, much the same as Ted was saying about the FW would, though if you load the rotors then they creating more lift than is needed for straight flight, so that combined with extra lift and the loss of lft from turning if done right they equal out.
So if you load the rotors enough, you can in fact sit still for a second or two, before needing to gain air speed again...
I hope that makes sense..

Mark,

Are you are loading the rotors by adding more power before the turn or as you enter the turn?

Ted

Brian is an unknown quantity at this point
Re: Airspeed in a turn

My gyro is fairly heavy and I tend to put some power on just as I begin the turn [for a steep or tight turn]. Depends on the day [how much lift there is or isnt] how much power is needed, course, depends on how much angle of bank you want to pull as well !!
I do not use any rudder in a turn.. coming out of the turn I might use rudder if I'm not lined up exactly where I want. FW's are more predictable in banking unless the day is rough and you are close to the ground !!!
