Re: Unsafe practices.. camera toting idiots flying gyros
Birdy,
Granted, your perspective is that there are a lot of idiots out there, probably me included and I wouldn't argue that point.. based on my hypothesis of life being full of stupidity with occasional flashes of brilliance..
In my prior post when I referred to 'what you can do with a gyro', I meant 'what birdy can do with a gyro', as opposed to the generic 'you' meaning everyone that decides to park his or her arse in the ejection seat.
I'm not sucking up here, merely stating fact, you're a fing good pilot but you've paid for the title with your share of incidents and accidents, aka 'flying experiences' and it is good to have your input on all flying issues.
My intent is to make it known to all who would view the video and think.. 'wow, I can do that', to think 'whoa, should I do that??'. Whilst Shawn may be a slick movie maker, he might not be a slick safety advocate - he makes no mentions of cautions in the video introduction as to how he acieves his footage and what precautions he has taken to do the run.
Hope this helps,
Nick.

Good effort Nick, but, without offending (either way)... I don't trade (nor refer) to my camera/editing work as smoke and mirrors.. just art and fun, and until you and I can sit over a cold pint and talk in person, I think you have no place to judge.. I have had one engine failure in a very undesirable location and it ended without incident, what-so-ever. This is the situation I create for myself and it is a safe one... Judge and scoff if you want. tell people what you want, but at the end of the day, it really comes down to the pilot and his or her capabilities, knowledge and history of the machine, time and experience, and a bit of skill. Just like driving to work in the car.
Cheers.... (ps.. by reading this... you're PC may get a virus... remember.. I told you, but I shouldn't have to warn the obvious)..
cheers again.

Re: Unsafe practices.. camera toting idiots flying gyros
Shawn,
You know that you create the safe situation, but the 'casual observer' does not / might not glean this from the video - why did I post my first comment as I did - an absence of knowledge of your practices, which you did not make known in your introduction. It is a mere something you may consider including in your posts. This might be stretching it some but if you think of litigation practices these days with opportunistic lawyers and injured parties you could well be in the firing line for a legal suit over nothing, it may go nowhere but still cost you thousands. I suggest you preface your shows with a warning of some sort to avoid this possiblity.
As to the Virus - Cheers, no, unlikely, I use Linux.. not an M$ virus friendly system.
Don't listen to eric, he's from the anti safety police...
Cheers,
Nick.

Nick.. All good points, and everyone's got them...
Good on ya for Linux.. I'm Mac OS (Unix), so it sounds like we're both safe on that end.

Re: Unsafe practices.. camera toting idiots flying gyros
Gee, Im sorry I didnt see this a year ago, I would have worried that a fat Bastard like me in a 320 Kg Tandem flying up the river at home was as dangerous as it is! I must be mental.
There are risks every time we get in our machines, always ones we cant see. I dont fly up the river when there is a howling westerly, but on those nice smooth afternoons and all the pressures and temps are in the green, at 65 knots, there aint nothing better! Even the neighbours like it.
Mark.
BTW, Nicky nakky noo, where are you?
