Gordon

Congratulations mate- Not too far away now from the sound of things.

Did you decide to flip the front landing gear to increase the stability- I guess Kevin would frown on that -maybe later perhaps?

I am still working on my one piece canopy section I should be ready to make 3 piece split mold from it in a month or so- then I'll probably get back into building again in ernest.

Let me know if you ever need any spares I still a few bits and pieces I won't be using with the turbine

Peter.

Re: Rotorway near finished

On our way to the Nats this year we meet a bloke at the airport at Hay who had a Rotorway 162? He had done the main drive mod to get rid of the chain and replace with a belt. Is this an easy mod?,I believe the chains get replaced every 100 hrs? Have done about 15 minutes in a Rotorway Exec at Caboolture. The machine I flew is for sale for about $80,000.

Yes this is a pretty easy modification to make and a much safer option as long as you steer clear of the Pro Drive System. Apparently it has a higher drive sprocket which increases the bending moment on the Cantilevered Secondary shaft as well as running a very (TOO) high tension on the belts.

For my safety and piece of mind after doing many many hours of homework was the AP Heliproducts designed belt drive system with a hydraulic clutch and belt tensioning system which can all run with the Factory 35 mm Secondary shaft or be used in conjunction with the AP secondary shaft system as well. All up the modification run around AU$ 10k -12 k plus duty and freight.

If you need any more details check out their site;

http://www.apheliproducts.com/

This was the point where Iwas up to 15 months back and had to decide if I wanted to invest this much into the current system or use this money and that obtained (hopefully) from the sale of the new engine towards a turbine project where the turbines were around U$5K and the KISS Kit U$ 23 (EPI kit is still not available but projected estimates are around U$18.5K for what I consider a much better designed sytem with the turbine mounted nuch lower inside the existing framework rather than tacked ont othe top.

Given the unfortunate delays in the EPI system I and a couple of other turbine owners are collaborating on an alternate drivetrain that just might suit our purpose,

Give me a call if you'd like to discuss things o7 4124 2329

An ex student of mine and former RAF owner here in Victoria got his Rotorway flight tested a couple of weeks ago and is now flying it around the Bachus Marsh area.

Re: Rotorway near finished

Hi Gordon,

As you say I only know of Pascal and Myself who are building turbines up this way as well as Roger Stierli of course who acyually has some hours up since his conversion about 2 years ago.

Ken Allport in Lismore is just about up and running with the Al B upgrades I think on his 162 F- Al Yard was helping him re rig the MR blades after replacing the Elastomeric Bearings .

Norm Pearson and Max Cochrane are in the Sydney Nowra region and very capable and experienced Pilots .I don't really know any of the Victorian Pilots or builders except for Shane Smith. I believe ther ewas another guy in Melbourne that was looking at doing his own Turbine conversion (2005) I don't know his name or if he has made any progress. There was a Turbine assembly on E bay last week from Victoria with a Reduction drive fitted with a vague refernce to a helicopter conversion - Ithink it was passed in with no bids for about 10K but I could be wrong.

Peter
