Gyro coms
Ok people i have finially had enough of hearing through my head sets "" What was that""
So can some one piont me in the direction of a good communication system for a open frame gyro that the ground crew can hear every thing you say the first time around?
I can hear perfectly, just the wind and motor niose is giving the transmission signal a hard time, i tried different type of head sets, and lastly i tried to put an extra "bag" around the mic with only a small hole righti n front of my mouth but still today they could not understand me all the time.
Today it was blowing about 25kts and some times it was good but other times when the wind was just wrong, i could not get the message through, not good when the blood is boilin and friggin neighbours cattle are causing a right royal f**k, near need a new set of rotors now.
But finially i dont want to be luggin a big motor bike helmet around with me as i have neck probs at the best of times, thou if that is the only option i guess i will have to suffer it.

Re: Gyro coms
Mark,
I used an ULTRACOM II helmet with an Icom 23e setup using just the 8 inch whip aerial. I had it through an Ultracom Intercom intercom (music input ) They aren't cheap but they work really well .... You don't need the intercom - just purchase a patch cable setup for the radio you are using. RX and TX were quite clear - of course if who ever is receiving isn't set up right it's not going to matter is it ..

Re: Gyro coms
Hi Mark
Give John Reynoldson a ring, I currently use the Skyrider UL Certified helmet with integrated headset and so do many many microlight pilots Australia wide. The optional Beard is a good idea for open gyro's.

Re: Gyro coms
Wot Sam said, Mark. Very switched on critter. If you give him a ring and tell him the problem, he'll tell you the answer. I couldn't sort mine (helmet/radio/headphones etc), so rang him, put it all in a box, posted it at the post office, and it was back in my post box all fixed in under 48 hours. Rooted around for years before that with various "experts". Adrian and Tim put me onto him.
Cheers
Fred

Re: Gyro coms
Bones,
Nolan-Helmets
I reckon I might dismantle one of my headsets & fit it up to one of these.... the N42 open face.... I had a look at one in town & they are very light .

Re: Gyro coms
Echo,
the mate bought one of the flip up full faces with the integrated bluetooth phone comms for his bike and he swears by it ...

Re: Gyro coms
I have a flip-up Nolan with the bluetooth module, and I'm not that impressed.
Sound is OK but mono only (so no point in connecting an Ipod). Wind noise becomes a big issue with this helmet, and there is little point trying to have a conversation at any speed beyond about 90kmh. Being an Italian helmet, i guess they were targeting the slow riding city scooter crowd, and not the open road riders.
The flip face helmet is also front-heavy, and annoys the bejesus out of me.
The riding position on my CBR means the helmet is always sliding forward and obstructing my view. I do like the flip down visor, however the top third of an inch is a dimply-matt finish, so there goes another slice of your forward view. This wouldn't be a problem with a more upright riding position like a gyro.
Echo, These helmets are designed for the Nolan headset, and I'm not sure how you would go fitting a third-party kit.
I for one wouldn't bother based on the wind noise issue alone. I would expect the open-face to be worse again.
