TU-95 Bear Propeller
Anyone else notice the design of the props on the TU-95 Bear aircraft? It appears to have a secondary set of props slightly offset from the mains.
I was wondering initially what would happen if a rotor setup was designed with the same principle? We have often talked about the design of a secondary set of rotors at 90 degrees to the mains but what about the effect of a set some 10 or 15 degrees behind the mains?
If they weren't in sync properly then I guess the 2per effect would make it difficult.

These props (their marking is AV-60) aren't staggered, they are coaxial so that front and aft groups of blades are counterrotating.
This design appeared to make possible to transfer high power (14000 hp) at high speeds (800 kmh) at respectively small diameter with high CoE (coefficient of efficiency) which is ~0.82 for these props.

Re: TU-95 Bear Propeller
I see a flight of 6 TU's tried out Englands defenses the other day, cost the taxpayer some $ 166,00 to send out a flight of Tornadoes to play the game with them. Seems the Russians have started testing out a number of Nato countries air defense systems.
Hope I got the aircraft right, I assume the TU's are the bearcat bombers.
Makes you wonder what new games have begun as the Russians have been pretty quiet for a long time. ......and they want our Uranium ?? Nick, where are you ??

Re: TU-95 Bear Propeller
The Russians have started to re establish themselves by long range airflights, and the rebuilding of a naval base in the Med sea .... as a start. Then there was the recent report of the Russians claiming to have placed a flag under the ice cap to lay territorial claim to land that contains high oil content. It worries me that this is occurring and more importantly where it will end.

You better worry where it will end with another country which thinks it's OK to bomb European country in the end of 20th century, to occupate other country with high oil content in the beginning of 21th century, killing thousands of innocent citizens and to prepare to bomb another country with high oil content.

Re: TU-95 Bear Propeller
Twisty,
Concur with you there, except for a point - it is not a ''Country'' that is doing this, but an organisation in several countries that are doing it, ultimately it is a select group of people who us a vehicle called a 'company' to steal from the rest of us, they can only do that by making the law suit them and empower them for same.
Here in Australia we have houses of parliament which sit, for example, near 400 people, for a thing to be done by the 'country' requires an act of legislation and this legislation can be put in place by as few as 201 people, in a population of 20 million we have only 201 that commit us to an act of war upon a people who did not deserve it, Iraq [ soon to be Iran - the SAS are learning how to speak Farsi ], where 100's of thousands of people have died. The name these people give to this 'process' is 'democracy', when the reality of it is that the 'representatives of the people', ie, the politicians that sit in the house of representatives, have been bank rolled into place by the large corporates in whose interest it is to have access to your military hardware so they can use it, and you, on the largely defenceless population of those oil rich nations. This all enables a small group of people to control the wealth of the world at the expense of the masses, people for whom enough is not enough, too much is never enough, and extreme and overburgeoning wealth is not enough, the only justice we have is that no matter how much they have, they will all die. Despite the fact that they die, they breed as well, usually not noticed by us as they set us all to squabling with each other, fighting between ourselves over the pitiful amounts of money that they return in exchange for our thousands of hours of effort in life to merely exist. We are all like Otto stuck in the concrete from that scene out of 'A fish called Wanda', the concrete is debt and we are all drowning in it because there is a flood of money elsewhere.
I was amused to see reported in the paper an incident involving a light aircraft being harried out of the 'APEC' exclusion zone by two FA-18's. The paranoia hanging on the air could be cut with a knife... any political organisation with this level of faith in its people really deserves replacement with something far better as it would appear that the people of this nation no longer have the freedoms we used to have, government desparation and suspicion has blinded it to its own charter, the commonwealth. Commonwealth is just a euphemism by the 440 odd trillionaires in this world who say, " that's mine".
It will be nice when the oil runs out, the power of the rich will most probably evaporate with it, then such nations that had oil will find their peace again.
Cheers,
Nick

[soapbox on]
That seems to be the problem, people realise the futility of their situation and they just do kill themselves, for them no other honourable escape which makes a more cutting and poignant comment on the social fabric we live in.
The shame of it is that it that instead of running away they could have so easily fixed it at the polling booth, but again, the corporates manipulate the knowledge of the population to not know better, there is this great show between labor and liberal and who between them is going to win, at the bottom line between the two of these parties are the losers, you and I.
Do us all a favour, vote for your preference of lib/lab at the bottom of your preferences, put them last and scare the sh*t out of them, most likely they'll get in on raw preferences anyway, but a lesson to them is what is required.
Funny what you can get out of a pair of propellors..
[soapbox off/end]

Doesn't take much to do the trick! Anyway, interesting discussion, particularly with the Olympic games coming up next year in China as we all know just how well the Russians and Chinese like each other AND we have seen China growing into a very powerful super power.
