Spring 2007 Gyro News date change

HI all,

2 points of note

1. I have been requested to submit the next issue of Gyro News 2 weeks earlier so as to allow plenty of time for matters relating to the upcoming elections.

This means the deadline for stories, pictures and letters to the editor need to be delivered to me by TUESDAY 31st of July...

Please spread this information around.

2. I have been getting as bit carried away with the size of the magazine and have been asked to slim it down a little. This means a little more of a delay for some articles I receive getting included . ie I'll save some for future magazines. This will also lighten the load a little and give me some time to correct a few errors and maybe even label the pictures !

Hope you are enjoying the Winter Gyro News.

cheers

Art

Art,

Firstly your doing a great job on the mag. It stands in good stead alongside the RA-AUS Ultralight mag now. I'm sure you get great satisfaction from the results of your efforts and the great feedback you must be getting. Good on you, a job well done!

Just like to add, and I don't want to stir up another hornets nest, but I for one really think it has the potential now to go into print for commercial distribution!!

Once again, great job.

I'm with you rotor, Art is doing a fantastic job and the magazine is very good quality with good articles. I do realize their is a cost factor involved.

Re: Spring 2007 Gyro News date change

Hi guys, thanks for the encouragement.

"Slimming" requests are financially based. The cost of the magazine is directly rated to the number of pages and the associated increase in postal charges. This has been steadily increasing since I started 2 years ago !

Next magazine will be around 40 pages and hopefully the quality will increase.

In my opinion there are a few hurdles to be overcome before the magazine can be ready for the news stands with my involvement.

1. It would be more work . I'm not willing to volunteer more time or effort than I already am.
for everyone's info I don't own a Gyro, I am not a pilot and I have spent less than 3 hrs in the passenger seat of a Gyro ever. My motivation to continue editing the magazine is dwindling directly proportional to the desperation and frustration of recently turning 40 and still not being a pilot ! After a lifetime (so far) of staring at the skies with envy.

2. The ASRA constitution has a certain amount of requirements applying to the production of the magazine that would make for very boring reading to a newstand purchaser. ie, meeting minutes, financial statements, members addresses, registered gyro listings etc. I beleive a change in the constitution would need to occur to remove these from Gyro News

3. I'm sure there are privacy issues involved with publishing peoples names, addresses and what they have parked in the garage.

4. There is a financial risk associated with this endeavor that I would feel uncomfortable being responsible for instigating on behalf of ASRA. Finances are (quite rightly) closely monitored on behalf of all members.

At the meeting at Caboolture last year I offered an option which I think is workable. A one-off Introduction to Gyroplanes magazine, specifically aimed at expanding ASRA, educating the masses and attracting sponsors/advertisers.

Everyone was very supportive of the idea and a few attendees even offered to bankroll the concept privately so as not to expose ASRA to the financial risk.

The only reason this has not progressed is listed in point 1 above.

Maybe if someone wants it done bad enough they will do it themselves ?????? I'd gladly help out as much as i could. (Russ ?)

Ultimately I think what ASRA and every Gyro pilot needs is summed up by the great Elvis Presley ..........

" A little less conversation, a little more Action"

cheers

Re: Spring 2007 Gyro News date change

Hi guys,

Sorry to hijack this thread a bit.....

Art, is there a way I can purchase/subscribe to the magazine without being a registered member of ASRA. I too do not own a gyro (anymore) and do not have current membership as a result.

I am keen to get the mag. If it easier to get ASRA membership again to recieve the mag then I guess I can do that....

Let us know

Paul

If you go to the ASRA site and click on the DOCUMENTATION tab I think you will find some options there.

Graeme.
