rotax 582

Can anyone give me a bit of advice on the older 582'sI am looking at a gyro to buy at the moment that has an older 582 in it. I'm not sure of the age of it, how many hours it has either. It doesn't have the blue heads however it is dual ignition. Does that mean that it is a DCDI Model 90 ?? or did they come out with the dual ignition on earlier rotax's - my apologies about my ignorance of these motors ops: .

The seller is some one who can be trusted and says that as far as he can work out it has the beefed up crank in it. Got to admit, I know
nothing about what to look for in a 2 stroke. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

rotax 582

I was in the same boat recently, not an expert on gyros and a well flown open frame came up for sale with a 582. Bottom line was that my instructor offered to check out the aircraft and test fly it for me... and then assist with any work needed to make it stable and safe. As it happened he knew the aircraft, I bought it and he then helped me set it up correctly. We did a hang test, worked out the COM and so on. This week we replaced the fuel pump...

I guess I'm just passing on that the engine is only one component. If you are a beginner like myself you should get advice. I don't think any amount of internet knowlege is going to help us as much as experianced eyes. Maybe try your local state gyro group? The Victorian one has been terrific for me and a real eye opener. Personally I want the aircraft as safe as possible...if the engine is a bit old I don't care. Whatever anyone says you don't know how its been flown or stored anyway.

Good luck!!
Dave
