2 identical gyros, one has 912, other has 914.

Remember they is identicals. What is the different fuel burns per hr.
this is just an info thing, forget about flying style........same, same, same

Interested to hear..........

Re: Fuel burn 912 uls and 914

Orrr talk about throwing out a lure.
Russ how will you ever get a true reading on this, for eg, no 2 engines will run the same let alone different size engines, and to get a true reading you would near have to be talking about the 80hp 912 verses the 914, not the 100 hp, as they are different engines for starters, as i understand it???

See clear as mud

Re: Fuel burn 912 uls and 914

Was pondering the difference between 912 100hp, verses 914 115 hp turboed

no big deal here, gimey a ball park figure

12 verses 16 L /per hr.........for example

O yea..thought those 100 hp ones were the 912uls engines

Re: Fuel burn 912 uls and 914

The uls motors are the 100hp ones, thou the bit that is still abit unclear in my mind is that the 914 is the same motor as the 80 hp 912 with the turbo stuff on it, the thing i can get my head around is why they cant use the 100uls motor with the blower, there is something different that is not suitable.

Re: Fuel burn 912 uls and 914

If they is do'n the same job with the same everythn Russ, the burn would be the same.
If it costs you 60hp to cruise at 60mph, then youll need to burn x fuel to make that 60hp, no matter wot the donk is. [ relitivly speekn.] The difference would be buggerall.

Re: Fuel burn 912 uls and 914

I was under the impression that the 914 is the 100 hp and the turbo only gets used when you neeed that extra "bit". The 914 gives you 100 hp and an extra 14 for a couple of minutes if you need it. I believe that is the only time the turbo works.

There is no way the Magni that I flew would fly 2 people on 80 hp.

Re: Fuel burn 912 uls and 914

Interesting............

I actually figured the 914 would use less, as it wouldn't have to work as hard to do the same HP as the 912.
Therefore.....less burn

Was informed recently that running at higher revs does not always mean more fuel burn. Keen to see this theory
on me new ej25.

The better an engine "breathes" the less fuel burn.........sumin like that. So, sometimes more revs means less fuel burn.

Re: Fuel burn 912 uls and 914

Russell, at the moment I am using an ej-25 SOHC with the VVT BUT I do not have the VVT hooked up yet. Without the VVT I reckon I am only getting approx 130 hp. This is the engine we had at Lameroo.

The original ej-25 SOHC without VVT was giving us 1100'/min climb rate. This engine with less pitch to maintain a max rpm of 5150 only gives us 500'/min. By us I mean combined weight approx 170kg and 50 liters of fuel.

It seems that the ej-25 SOHC without VVT is 165hp, the ones with VVT connected are 175, and this one with VVT but not connected is around the 130 hp.

That 165 hp engine is a ripper so I can't wait to get this one connected with the VVT and experience 175 hp. The ecu that I use is a link from NZ who have now released the software for aVVT version, so I am about to order one for this engine.

It seems that a basic ej-25 SOHC is 165hp, the ones with VVT connected are 175, and this one that I am currently using has VVT that is not connected is around the 130 hp.
