Re: batteries

This thread seems to have gotten off track and died.

Are there any updates on Russsell's original question regarding the new technology replacing the Odessey batteries?

Re: batteries

I origionaly was looking for an Oddessy batt, but after speaking with a few Battery gooroos, I was recommended a calcium non maintenence battery.
Have had it know for 2 years, and never missed a beat. Cheap too 27AH for under $100.00.

Re: batteries

Below is the response I got from a fellow RW owner when I asked this questuion on th ROG site it sounds likethis might be theproduct you were talking about Russell what do yoy think?

Peter

If you want the latest technology battery that has huge CCA, lightweight, and fast recharge time then you need a nanotechnology LiOH battery made by A123 Systems. These batterys are about to make Lead Acid, NiCad, and NiMH batteries all obsolete. Here is an article describing the battery technology:
http://www.evworld.com/article.cfm?storyid=979
and the A123 website:
http://www.a123systems.com/html/home.html
You can make a 240 CCA battery stack from only eight of these cells and it will only weigh 1.23 lbs (at 70 grams per cell x 8 cells). The discharge/recharge characteristics of this battery is enough to start the rotorway engine easily an by the time the engine is warmed up these batteries would be recharged to 90%. An Additional benefit is that these nanotechnology batteries are safer than any other batteries currently on the market. You can drive a nail through them and they will not cause a fire... You can buy 12 of these cells for U$239.00 from A123. A 480 CCA battery stack would consist of 16 cell battery and cost U$330.00 and provide 480 CCA at a weight of only 2.6 lbsat todays prices.
I can't wait for the cost to come down on these LiOH cells....
