Russell, It is yellow - bright yellow and beautiful to fly. I mentioned it in the last magazine. Maybe it hasn't been delivered up your way yet? Or you didn't read it!
The front seat is occupied by J when he is PIC, and by me when I am doing my training with Willi.
Bewdyfull..............
To the best of my recollections you will be the "First legit" female gyro pilot............congrats
[ did you.......or...... did he, sign off the cheque. ] :chuckel: [ it's M I N E :Bat1: ]

ASRA has one very experienced pilot, Barbara Brown from Victoria. She has been flying for years.
We also have about 7-8 female Students. When I was training with Willi last weekend, there was another female student training as well.
Re the cheque - J paid half and I paid half. Isn't that what 'sharing' is all about? :peace:

I supose the main point is peoples reputations shouldnt be assassinated [even if it is PB] with missinformation and lies, and we all know how I dislike misleading information and charactor assassination.
All that is important are Facts

Well said , Woz .
It's got f$#k all to do with PB. Just because you did'nt read about something on the forum doesnt mean it was hushed up .
'Bugger' - don't let the truth get in the way of a good rumour , hey !? :Bat1:
Why don't you petticoats get on the blower & ask the man himself , or wait for the report to come out :punch:.
Better still go on the Seppo's forum - there's plenty of bullsh1it & ego's there to keep you entertained :moon: .

just got off the phone, puting 2 and 2 together gave Jeff h-s a call. sure enough it was him, Looong story, got into a flat spin, unable to control it. Ended with a bent gyro. Full details will be coming via the usual format.

I rang jeff about the arrival of my 33' rotors and had a good chat to Jeff the other day.
It must be said that at the time of the accident that Jeffs machine only had one rudder. The other one had broken off.(Jeffs words) The difference between one and two rudders in relation to parts of the rudder system being blanked from airflow would be quite noticible. From what Jeff told me and the Rudder that was missing all points to the dhading/blanking of airflow to the remaining rudder.
All the facts need to be included when statements/opinions about accidents are made.
I can't wait to try these 33' rotor on Firebird FB001. If they are as smooth as the AK blades I have previously flown, the extra diameter should be great for the low end and, according to the more informed around the world, should not affect the top end much, if at all. Thaks Jeff for getting larger diameter blades sorted out and availible.

"The difference between one and two rudders in relation to parts of the rudder system being blanked from airflow would be quite."
Quite what?
Keep in mind that the rudder was off much earlier, [and one rudder on its own is in the requirements of a similar gyro with one rudder], Jeff had been flying around for some two and a half hours before the preceding violent winds from a storm suddenly rolled over the hills while he was out and he just didnt quite make it back by 2.5 to 3 Ks

Two hang gliders who were above the strip at the time were blown over 100Ks away,

One rudder out to the side is more likely to be shaded or blanketed than one central rudder.

Woz, over what period of time?
Lets say an hour. Blown away means they did not want to go so they would be pointing back towards their take off point. A trike does what 50 kt, 100k? So if they went 100 km in an hour and the trikes are doing a 100ks, then the wing was 200 km/hour.
Something is not quite right. The hearsay does not agree with the facts. I am not doubting one hellova updraught and high winds, but 200 k winds for an hour?
Maybe they flew away to get out of the turbulence. Now that makes better sense than blown over a 100km away.

One thing that is clear is that there have been some very destructive storms cells about in the last 6 months or so. We have had the case of the German woman being sucked /blown up above 20,000 feet and the Japaneses guy being spat out of the same storm front some 100K's away so it would pay for all of us to be well prepared when flying in any stormy suspect weather for violent winds and up drafts that could well exceed the pilots ability to maintain control !!.
Paul, looking forward to seeing how the 33's go. I bought a set of Jeff's 28's [been running 27ft 6in Robs and before that 27 ft Ricks] I found Jeff's lacking in the low end department, I knew because they haven't got the same pitch that they would be different but I thought the extra foot over Ricks and the 6 inches over Robs would compensate but no, it didn't work out that way.
The Ricks actually have better low end than Jeff's. Jeff's are very smooth and have better top speed than Robs and keep the speed advantage when the air becomes disturbed.
I will probably sell the Jeffs, only have 20 hours or less.Could deliver to the nationals...
Brian were you using robs tapered / twisted, or the "normal" blade.
I've flown both types [ robs ] and found the tappered to be better overall.
Have not tried the later "AK" blades to compare
Some yrs back tested some blades from jerry...............unreal, but he still has not released them for sale. [ they were wide chord, lifted like hell and allowed me to fly faster for less power ] downside.........you needed a good flexy mast, mine was me tandem........solid mast

"Something is not quite right"
Yes Paul..something is not quite right, I said Hang glider not Trike
Be that as it may...they were blown away, over several hours, trust me, They had no ground crew that would volunteer to go get them, took them day and a half to get back,[Japanese pilots getting aero tow instruction, suppose to stay around the strip. If you can't speeka da inglish hitch hiking could be a prob.]
The instructor was just too busy, or couldnt give a frig,or $ didn't include rescues, who knows, contact by phone was made so they new they was ok.
your forgiven...

Russ, I'm using Robs tapered and twisted, the alloy blades carry a load better and I reckon fly a bit faster [on my old girl] but Robs give a much better ride when it gets rough.
I did not like Robs rotors first up but grew to love them and prefer them over alloys now. I should put the 27 ft Ricks back on for a fresh comparison.
