Echo,

The dash itself - did he make it out out label making material he had or did you supply the material?

What material is it ?

Is it backed onto plywood or strong enough to support itself? How have you done it mate?

Give us a bit more info if you don't mind mate - wouldn't mind going down this path with the Jodel.

Very nice Eric. I like those white back ground instruments. I put a couple of them in the G-100 dash. Looked smart as well.

Rotor,
the panel itself is 4mm plywood , I took it over to old mate in Tamworth & he used it as a template . The material he used is matt black on white plastic so whatever the machine engraves comes out as white. The options he has , such as colour & material, would give you just about any sort of design you want. I found a font for the style writing I wanted & e-mailed it to him. Even with the plywood backing I will still have to run a brace to keep the dash firm. The empty hole is for a Microair 760. I can take some more close up pics if you want , Rotor.

Paul,
yeah, I thought the white back instuments might look a little different . Only problem with tandems is having to double up on some for the 'back seat driver'.

Hey Echo,

Is that a 3,5" Strat? If so what type? I have an ASX2 3.5" I was going to install but have gone back to the steam gauge instruments. That panel looks great. I'm with the fella's some close ups would be excellent.
Sonny sent me a CHT and a dual EGT, so I'll fill the rest out with Westach's instruments and perhaps a Tiny Tach up top, wont be nearly as flash as your Mate.

I'm booking my ride now ole Mate  Please.

Cheers,

Mitch

Looks great Eric, I've just ordered a CNC package for my mill so I'll (eventually) be able to do the same kind of work. Here's hoping I can get it to look that good.
cheers

Mitch,
3.5" Stratomaster Maxi Single Flight 2 - Engine RPM , ASI , Alt , VSI ,QNH , fuel flow etc. 29 functions in all.
Picking up some aluminium in Newcastle tomorrow to build a single seater based on the same frame/undercarriage as tandem with a conventional tail , may be powered by an EJ 20 or a Simonini from Jeff.

We use this stuff all the time in the fire game for panel labels and valve labels.

The trade name I know is 'Trafalyte' or same word with different spelling. It is generally made of a sandwich of white plastic between two black layers and is quite durable, some stuff I've seen is up to 25 years old and still looks good.

Its only short coming is brittleness, you have to be carefull if you are cutting or drilling it and most such cuts are best handled with a very high speed router with a small bit.

Hope this helps,

Nick.

This is my first cutout for Firebird with the Stratomaster in position. The Microair is under that. Hobbs down the bottom.

Sam,
there are a few guys around here that have asked for training , I'll see how the interest is when I get it flying.
Sh1t , you blokes are getting a rough time with these fires :flamed:

Murray,
you're right there ain't much legroom , so what I've done is cut a couple of round holes in the floor to dangle my legs thru..... :crazyas:

Nick,
you must use different stuff , what old mate used is'nt brittle at all , its very flexible & easy to drill.

Paul,
that console looks great , is that aluminium sheet the guages are fixed to?

Bought an ODYSEY battery today - F#*K'n $257 !!!!!! I told the dude I only wanted ONE :punch: , he said that was all I was going to get . A bloke will have to keep his machine under lock & key :anger:

Yes Eric, 2.0mm I think it is. Cad drawn and then routed. Having to bend it is a problem re getting marks on it, so satin black P/Koting will be the go.

The second cabin and tail feathers were painted in the oven today, so tomorrow I should get them mounted on FB 002. I can then fit the seats etc sub assembly and after that the rudder pedal sub assembly. Looks like not much time off at Christmas.

It is a shame that it takes 90% of the time to do the last 10% of the work :tears:.

Nick,
I paid $110 for the same battery in the yellow machine ( RIP ) , so it's got me buggered how it could have gone up so much :omfg:.

Paul,
the reason I asked if your dash was aluminium is the engraver dude had dfferent coloured aluminium sheet that he could do whatever design you come up with ; just a thought , there is probably someone in Ballarat that could do something similar.

You might have picked a battery that had been sitting there in the shop for a fair while. I got one like that but didn't do so well next time. They are great batteries though and I have never been let down with one.
I pushed my gyro out of the shed the day before and although it hadnt been started for a couple of months, it started no problems.
