Hi Dusty,

There are a couple of people that import gyros and kits you can purchase built or build youyself. One I know of is the Butterfly. It's a nice light machine and would be an ideal learning machine. Not sure of the availability or price. There's a link to it in the Web Link section on the site. There are also some very experienced local builders on the scene that would be more than happy to help you out.

Just one question. Are you a gyro flyer or just doing your homework before getting into flying ??

I am researching the prospects of building an aircraft. I am keen to learn to fly however there are no instructors in Far North Queensland. I intend to build a machine, however, will have to travel south to gain instruction which I would like to obtain on my own machine.

Thanks

Dusty,

A lot of beginners (I'm not long into the air myself here) make the mistake of building a machine before they learn to fly. They spend a lot longer than they first envisaged on the project when they could be out their flying. My advise, and I'm sure others will back me on this, is to buy a good cheaper machine for your first machine to learn on. You can buy one of these machines fairly cheap and will allways get your money back provided you don't damage it during training. That's another point - you may spend a year building a machine and then roll it over during training - I don't want to put you off here, but this can happen.

Just another point. If you are building a machine you'll need an ASRA Technical Advisor to approve the building of your machine as you go along. This wouldn't be a problem for you, just a little more difficult due to distance.

There have been a couple of cheap gyros for sale up your way lately. If you email " Bones"he may be able to put you onto something. You'll find him in the user list.

dusty, if your avialable on Easter week there is an instructor coming down to Praire to put a few people through for their tickets, even if you dont want to start training it would be a good oppotunity to have a look/talk and go for a fly even. If your interested send me an email and i'll give you all the info.. :D

The training day has been put off for a month or six weeks, because the instructor had an incident with a dog and his propellor  ( the dog lost the battle). I will post when its on again if any one is interested..
