Hi Russell.
This sounds like a really good deal! HP wise it sounds better than the sub 4 .
Please excuse my ignorance as a newbie but, what exactly is involved in "the electrics".
Any idea as to what a reduction drive would be cost?
What else might the engine need- any photos?
Thanks.
Peter
Not fair to compare these 2 engines mate
sub4.................110hp
ej25..................175hp
TOTALLY different power plants
Electrics................all you have to do is connect5....6 wires, give it fuel, water, hit the ign switch
Gearbox.................2 of us have chosen 2.4 ratio,"autoflite" from NZ guy with 76" props [ box $3500 approx, new]
lots more info, back on this thread.
sub4's....[ea81's] great engines, well proven "old technology"
ej series as above....................."new technology"
ej series............quickly becoming the choise for 2 seater gyros [yanks too getting into them] the cost of them etc etc also plays a part here.[ would love em to be lighter tho, but you can't have everything]
Know of a couple of ej's, working hard daily..........BIG hours, they love em.
Generally, they use around 13.......18 ltrs per hr. Rebuilding costs are great too, if you manage to wear em out.
Must admit tho.........power to weight, you can't beat a 912, or a 914.[ but you need 25 grand to buy one] that's 5 or 6 ej's for the same price.
Those 912's and 914's are reliable...........and so are these ej engines. Another point with these ej engines, they are a motor vehicle engine, so any half decent mechanic knows how to service them. The rotax ones is a different story tho.
Don't think I'm trying to bag rotax in any way, coz I'm not, they are bloody good engines.[ costs is their hurdle]

Thanks Russel you old scoundrel (term of endearment!!)
Do these have the variable valve timing?
Regardless, I will take what ever you have left out of the first shipment.
I am goin to need at least 15 SOHC ej-25s per year from 2007 onwards.
I have been over in the West having a lovely time with fine weather. Several ASRA members over there were really put out with the overly zealous suspension I endured!!!
I have been flying a Magni, a non modified Raf with a new h/stab, and a highly modified Raf. The guy who had no stab, after we fitted an effective h/stab, almost wet himself when we flew in conditions that almost kept the GA guys on the ground.
Aussie Paul. :mrhappy

Bloody hell, after a bit of tinkering with the carbs and repitching the prop after a small mishap(wink wink) i am cruising with 60 kts indicated and only using 8.5 lts yes thats right, done 6.5 hrs on a 72 lts tank and still had about 10 lts in the tank, the computer was telling me i had about 8 left but i needed a pee and my legs needed a stretch.....
be interesting to see the difference now i'm back home and the difference with my new prop..
Misplaced me me piece of paper with names of guys chasing these engines...............THEY ARE READY TO GET.............NOW
mail me direct, or ph 0418276747.......russ

Russell,
Sorry to hear that -tire kickers are a real PITA and of course none will admit to it - as you say pay Day is the only way you find out.
I was interested when you first posted but they seemed to be snapped up pretty quickly so I didn't bother as I thought you were doing another run.
I don't suppose you still have any?
When are you taking the training program on the road?
Peter,
