Pondering again..............

When we tune our carbies, we do it on the ground.........at sea level, sort of

Ok, we goes flying..........the higher we gets, the richer we run, therefore more fuels being consumed, unnecessarily

Query............why don't we tune em a bit leaner, so when we are up there, things are more correct, fuel / air ratio wise ???????????

Not being a mechanic, at full throttle, aren't we pumping in the rite amount, it's just when we get to cruise settings at the higher altitude we need to "retune" the carby...............but we can't, it's preset..........at ground level..............just wundering

Rus you can get altitude compensating carburettors for aircraft ....

Yes I know that..........but 99.9% of pilots keep the original carby..........hence my query.........no big deal

HI all as a mechanic
the right way to do the tuning you speak of is the way rotor is going about it
Step 1. take carby off motor clean & inspect
step 2. throw in the nerest bin
step 3. fit quality EFI with ego sensor for monitoring fuel mixture & pilot adjustable mixture contol, not available with factory ECU :poke:
This gives correct fuel trim at any altitude

Great idea.................BUT

By the time the "average" guy payed to get his engine fitted, tuned etc etc to this EFI system..........bet he's got no change out of 3 grand...........or MORE [ that's using new parts ]
