Hey Ya'll
I haven't realy dug into it yet, but I have a Subby motor givin to me by a feller down the road. Well it has water in the oil, lots of it. :yikes:
The car is a 1984 sedan, not sure what the motor is, EJ something or another.
Any way the thing purrs like a kittin, runs smoothe as silk, so is there anything besides a cracked head or blown head gasket that will let the raditor empty into the oil pan?
Do these things have a water cooled oil cooler? And how do I determine what engine it is?
I'm thinking on powering a flyin machine with it. :crazyas:
Wadaya think?
Cheers

The only oil cooler that the motor might have is one thats incorperated in the radiator, like machinery radiators, if it has not got one of them then i guess it must be gettin in through the head somewhere like you said, either way its a bitch you have the prob of findin it???

Yea Mark
If the engine would skip or miss on one cylinder I could find it easy doing a compression test.
I would do a totle rebuild on it anyway, but if it turns out I have a cracked cylinder liner it'll cost over a hundred bucks to fix just that.
So I don't know if its worth foolin with.
Thanx
Sonny

Sonny, idont suppose you know how long it has been since he has changed the oil, i'm thinkin if its been ages it could be a very small leak, but if not it could be a liner like you said i forgot about that, if its lots it prob more likely to be that, bummer

Yea the guy is the footie coach down at the high school.
Has takin good care of the car, heck it looks nearly new. I'll ask him about the oil change and see what he says.
Thanx

If radiator water is green its just a blown head gasket if its not been using inhibitor you'll see corrsion in the heads & throw motor in the bin BUT the head gasket leak will be visable through tapetcover get someone to presserize radiator with garden hose will do if no air is available OR could be welsh plugs in the heads which will also be visable with tapet covers off
ps stop running engine! as the bearings dont run good on water

Water in the oil.
Theres two types, 1 water sit'n on the bottum of the sump under the oil or 2 oil and water mixed in and the lot lookn like milk.
Duno wot ol mate was do'n with his beloved old sooby, but if he was just tak'n the kids round the block to the footy and not giv'n the engine time to warm up to opp temp, then it could be just condensation.[ fix'n that problem is cheaper and you don't need to lift a spanner.]

Butch and B1rdy
The Welsh plug is something I hadn't considered. Ill try adding antifreeze and use my handy dandy Snapon coolin system pressure checker after I remove the valve covers.
Are the steel liners in direct contact with the coolant?
And I have drained the sump so theres no danger of running it again till I find the problem.
Thanx for your help, gents.
Cheers
