OKay next Question.... When do you do your pre take off run ups? Out where the big guys normally do it or is it a case of "well its far enough away from the vehicle" or "Well it was running well this morning so I'll just zoom off into the sunset"?
Ted
Any of the above........... :peace: [ depends who's watching ]

Gedday Ted ....
I'd have a slight problem running up as I don't have any brakes - my sandshoes 'd wear out in no time!
What I normally do is - once up the runway and then back to the downwind end to run my blades up. The motor isn't really working but at least it's a bit of a feel of everything.
I think that's right ... it's been that long since I've flown!!

LOL. If I see someone doing laps of the strip I'll know its you.

OK Ted, I'll have a go at this one
A couple of things to consider doing pre-run up checks with a pusher gyro.
- on a grass strip every small rock ,stick or small lump of dirt in the area will go thru your prop
- on a sealed strip you can hear every rock as they go thru the prop.
My pre-runup checks involve getting the engine up to operating temp, limited to about 1500 rpm, then making sure everything is stable.
Double check all instruments levels ,temps, switches, controls
While waiting this is also a good time complete comms checks, and then listen for any other radio traffic.
( one issue is I turn off my comms while I pre rotate due to voltage drop)
Pre Taxil Checks
A All Clear
B Brake Off
C Comms On and OK
F Fuel OK
I Instruments
T Throttle
S Secure- all straps secure
Pre Rolling
Same as above ABCFITS
The final set of confirmation checks I do while rolling for the take-off.
When at full throttle, confirm full rpm, oil temp, oil press, full instrument scan
Anything looks out of place I'm still on the ground, with full rotor rpm ( the best brake you can have)
(I suppose thats one big difference between a gyro and a fixed wing, a gyro can stop in a very short distance even from full speed )
If in any doubt, fly the length of the strip at 5 feet, then back again
I'm not a fan of full engine rpm checks while stationary, just makes a hell of a noise and is rough on your prop.

Sounds great to me Ross.... so what about the others??? Is it possible that others are perhaps a little complacent?

Davo, I've got to remember that one. At work they are always pestering us into filling out pre start check lists. You know the usual Oil & Water levels, Belts, oil and fuel leaks frame distortion, hydraulic leaks, tyres etc..... I think I'll try the F & F comment..... Should work a treat. Mind you if I'm unemployed next week I applyinig for a job at your place.
