View Full Version : Prototype GT Gyroplane KRUZA
Spent about 2.5 hours putting the Kruza through is paces yesterday. Weather was 35deg in Echuca and wind was 5-20Kts gusting. Flys realy well and very stable. Regardless of power setting, full power or idle, straight and level or idleing decent, never once waggled its tail or pitched in any way it shouldnt have.
Just took a little time to get use to the R22 style controls.
Had a ball and am looking forward to the next chance I get to fly it some more. Here are some of the pictures I took.
Regards SamL. :)

Sam,
Very nice machine you have selected.
"Observation"; The exhaust outet from the muffler is going to be a teriffic rainwater catcher when stopped sitting it out till the shower stops. "Suggestion"; Have the end turned over about 90* then cut at a 60* angle so that the top is further out from the machine than the bottom of the angle. Bit like some of the tractors have.
As I am a dumbass on computer drawings, I hope you understand my coment. Just a mod to make it better. Birdy wouldn't have to worry about that as he tells us he don't get rain, so his new one would have the sports version exhaust like it is.:mrhappy
Cheers Des Garvin.

Sam, when I saw the post heading I thought that there would be some pics of your new machine I was looking at a couple of weeks ago. I was very impressed at what those two blokes are building, they are on a winner for sure.
Graeme.

I will pass on your comments Des. The main idea of the upturned outlet is to direct the noise up rather than down. The new machine will be very different again, with greater enthisis on quieter operation.

Production model, Kruza 2.
I also agree, but this will only be confirmed after all flight testing and certification is complete. Stay Tunned.

Cheers Des Garvin
Tail wheels Des X2. They will be mounted at the bottom of each fin.

Now Ya Talkin! I'm excited too!
Mitch.
With the ground clearance under that tail, me tinks your blades might be chewin dirt before tail wheel comes into contact with the ground.
30 plus footers......yikes
I flew number one.........went great, why the change here ????

Sam,
A serious question, are they planing on using a rotax in the future? there is no reason why it wouldnt work with one, the weight saving makes the performance the same or better
Hey Mitch, "Top Shelf!!!!"
Russ, the current Kruza is flying with a set of 29 ft Patroney's and it flys great. The exact tail wheel set up is still not finalized. It may end up similar to the Xenon.
The main reason for the changes was to strengthen the tail configuration. This setup is also actually lighter than Kruza 1, but as all new designs, any performance enhancements are still to be proven during its test flying phase.
Bonesy, the 912S/914 could be a serious possibility in future, but the boys have other hurddles to attend to first.
Regards SamL...... :D

'Top Shelf' Indeed!
Certainly looking the goods with that tail set-up. I reckon you did a good thing there Sam. It looks a better aircraft for my mind and I believe performance testing will be proven.
Hope it comes together for you in good time and good order Sam.
Cheers
Mitch.

Hey Sam,
How do these fellas rig up the 'steam gauge' rotor rev counter?
Cheers,

They seem to be using a type of Inductive Proximity which counts the teeth on the ring gear.
