This would probably be best to be put on the ASRA site but :fingers: them, after watching the video clip that the yanky guys had done on the local news, i cant think of a better low or no cost way to advertise the gyro movement to a larger viewing public, i am asking a serious question of someone in the organising of this event to try to get some thing like this done for next year and if someone were to start now if there were any problems to arise there would be plenty of time to work through them.
People that spring to mind would be Dave Stubberfield, or you Rotor you seem to know people in that area, i just think that this type of thing should be getting pushed alot more than some of the other stuff that goes on, from what i hear as i have never been to one before.
Or maybe i should just shut the hell up before i get :censored:

Fellas,

ASRA have a publicity officer don't they ??? and that's what this should be all about. Generating a positive image to the public about gyrocopters. Why not a short doco or at least news coverage of the event. It could even be a venture for a budding enthusiast to film - birdy's desert crossing* meeting up with those intending to meet him and fly the rest of the way in. The trouble is getting some one interested or at least knowing the right people to get some one interested. Could make an interesting story, bit like that madman that flies around in his old Bell chopper making doco's in the outback. Matter of fact maybe some one should mention it to him and he may just want to join in the fun :raving:

Geoff, Not sure about the publicity officer bit, cause I can unstuck thinking the Public Officer was there publicity officer. I didn't have my glasses on at the time and stuck both feet in by saying that I've nver heard any thing from him.

I'm sure the ASRA board memebers read this forum just to see how far behind they are, so it won't take long for the message to filter through. You are right we need to get our arses into gear. Why not invite Angela Smith from Pacific Flyer or Shelly Ross from Australian Flying to the Nationals? They could write an article or two, grabs some pics. Qld Country Life, maybe to do an artcle, on equipment for mustering.

Guys
Rumor has it that there may be a gyro altitude record attempt at the Nationals 2006. :yikes:
The Nationals is also planned as a half way rest stop for an around Australia gyro flight.

This sort of stuff will be of interest to the local press.

Ross,

Has the rumor named the pilot, and this sort of an attempt would need carefull planning. What sort of weathe rconditions would be required? ( and if anyone says "fine" look out!)

Altitude Record Attempt
Pilot: me
engine :914 turbo
gyro: to be confirmed( same machine i plan to fly around Australia)
Weather Conditions: At this point I don't know what are suitable conditions for such an attempt, but I've got 5 months to get a team together to plan it.
Fear Factor: mind blowing :shiver: :dizzy: So many thing to be worry about.
CASA: lots to organise with these guys. Initial response good.

How High: 20,000- 25,000 feet

Major Questions: How good are those oxygen sets????

Back to the drawing board

At this stage I'm still trying to convince myself this altitude thing is a good idea.
I've been to 20, 000 while mountaineering, so another 5, 000 dosn't seem so bad, when you add oxygen int the equation.
I'm not sure if I have to guts to go for an absolute record :nervious:. Also I'm planning the attempt in a pusher gyro, so I'm going to have a bit more drag than the Little Wing.

Just how high do you think a Magni with a 914 turbo will go anyhow.

Did I accidently mention the word Magni, oooooopps keep that to yourself.

The 914 will push it as far as the rotors will go. Rotors will run outa air before the rotax, so it'd pay to start with over rated[ underloaded] rotors.
BTW, a million $ wouldn't convince me to go over 1000'. :shrug_no:

Guts, you obviosly got plenty o that if your even concider'n this madness. If you don't have a fear o hights, the moons the limit. :shiver:

I'll stick to the low alt limit, with the roos n cows n trees n .............................. .

This is a question probably Rotor can answer, after being layed up on me back for a week or so now and read the new gyro news from front to back bout 14 times, one thing sticks out that is not mentioned in there, is there plenty of showers and toilets at the strip??? like if 500?? people turn up now thats alot of cranky women trying to get a shower, and pee.
Like it dont worry me i'll go without a bath four three or four days, mind you not many people would want to talk to me by then,, :eyebrow: must remember that if there is someone annoying me.

Bones ... there's a shower and toilets at the footy field only metres from the strip. The shower's useless - only a trickle so the best place to go is the caravan park but you'll need a car to get there -* 2 bucks a shower but it's worth it.

Doesn't bother me either if you don't shower ... at least the flies won't be bothering me and if you get lost you won't be hard to find* :eyebrow:

Geoff, Are there any limitations about camping on the strip?

rotor
27-12-2005, 06:34 PM
Ted,

There's plenty of room right down the town side and back far enough of the strip to camp. There's plenty of open space and an area with gum trees spaced out. There won't be a problem as far as I can see, plenty of room for everyone. In fact there's a camping ground just 1 minutes walk towards town which is closer to amenities for the ladies, and may be a bit quieter for those that'll want to sleep* :chuckel:

On that note, how many people attended the 2005 Nationals? Anyone got any idea?

Im the same as you Mark, furtherest i been off shore was Thursday Island when i did a trip up Cape york. Best memories about T.I. are the women there, i was ordering a counter lunch in one of the pubs, when one of the locals walked in (female) and set up the pool table, anyway while me an me mate were having a feed and watching her sink the balls on the table 4 more walked in, now these girls averageing 6ft3in an around 285lb (old scale for Sonnys benifit). Beautifill people but bloody BIG. Thats all ....... just got a flash back when you mentioned your over seas trip.........thats all...... :bored: so :focus:. hope you leave your self plenty of time to see some of our country Sonny.
