Hi All

Has everyone seen the new jet ski's and the engines that are in them and is anyone playing with them?

I don't have the money to play but a new 1200 cc dry sump fuel injected four stoke sort of makes me think will it work in a gyro. I havent seen one in the flesh so maybe its not possible then again maybe it is

I know there is a good reason for not using the two strokes out the jet ski's - can someone tell me what it is please :D

Regards Mark

Marko,

Go to the yank forum and do a search on the Yamaha Gemini 4stroke jet ski install....100hp and it looks like a good install. There is some discussion about just how good this and it's close cousins are, all to do with the torque being delivered similarly to the 912's.

G'day Mark
The eminent pollution laws will eventually ban all 2-strokes from the waterways, and possibly from everywhere else as well unless they can come up "greener" 2 strokes. They have improved but still have a long way to go to match a modern 4 stroke.
The benefits to us will be many more light-weight, powerful and efficient 4 strokes to choose from. There are many already available from the outboard market which was previously dominated by 2 strokes.

Hi All

Mitch the snowmobile thread in the yankee forum sort of inspired me to ask and as we don't seem to have heaps of them I thought laterally and went why not jet ski waverunner as we seem to have a few of them here.:o

I guess no one likes the idea of a 800cc watercooled two stroke rotax or bigger and around 100 hp or japanese 2 stoke of the same size and hp.:chainsaw::Bat1:

Tim I hope they start drifting onto the market soon - I know you don't mind using different engines like suzuki have you been playing with anything different lately that you care to tell us about :D

Mark ,
I looked at Sea Doo a while back , they run a 4-stroke Rotax that has variants from 120 hp up over 200 with super charger. Neil Hintz makes a redrive to suit some jet ski engines .
Sea Doo would'nt sell me just a motor ... I didnt tell them what I had planned for it ..... I said I wanted a spare for racing skis ... they said the motors are so good you dont need a spare ...:anger: ... next option was to buy a used ski & rip the motor out .... only trouble is if I had a good jet ski I would be too busy on the water to pull the engine out.

Hi All

Echo you've been a long time and fairly quite mate :D I have changed computers so I dont have your email address anymore.

That new Kawasaki jet ski with the one and a half litre engine supercharged and 250 hp would seem like a decent four stroke engine to someone who wanted light weight and a few horses.

Mate I know your going to post a few photo's of the new build can you email me the full size ones as they come along please mate

I just got my masts and 76 inch hub from Rosco so when i get some ply wood to protect it i'll have to get the forklift and bring the welding bench home and set it up on that.

I got a sneaking suspicion that my first gyro build isnt going to look quite as good as yours
