One question straight off the bat for you, do you need a hf radio cause if ya do i dont think i'll bother to go cause i would be able to fly, like i drove all the way to the Ol station fly in and wanted to take my gyro put couldnt cause couldnt fly it there.... :pistoles: so the only thing to do was   and i think i done that...

Mark, if you only 'think' you've done that then you didn't have enough. :crazyas:

Mark,
No you don't need a radio to fly from Biggenden. I have flown from there quite a few times and haven't ever had to use a radio .... besides a hf aerial'd be a mite big for a gyro :poke: (vhf) I know what you meant ....
Geez I missed everyone at the Raglan flyin ... only stayed an hour or two as I had to work the Saturday and then Sunday night .... bit disappointing only 2 gyros there from what I saw ..... how long did you stay Mark - any recollection

From what i remember i worked Thursday night shift, then left the Towers about 10 am and got to Raglan about 6-6.30pm after getting lost, then proceeded to drink the 15 beers in the esky :drunk: thank god Russ had a head acke and wasnt drining otherwise it could have got real mesy :crazyas: and then next morning it could have been , then i left on Saturday lunch time to go to Mackay for a bit of hang gliding, and yeah you guessed it  :drunk: is there gonna be any hope :eyebrow:

Woooo Hoooo!!!!* Sounds like ya weakening there Russ me boy.* *( You know normally, I hate indecision but in this case I'll make an exception)
So ya gonna be there all weekend Russelll or what???? What do yer mean the police have got ya scared???? Oh.... You've got no points left to lose..... we understand your problem.
hey ted............this'll pee you off a tad,* * * *no points system in the NT........shucks aye
We just get fined, again & again & again........more civilised
As to me getin to the nats..........wont happen in my lifetime, not while some of them current ones are runnin asra [ I said SOME of em]
Why not have agm's and nationals at the same venue, would be more effective in many ways, just have the agm the day before.........maybe. Lots of guys have dificulty getin time off twice......one to go to an agm, and another to get to a national meet.I think something along these lines could be put together successfully.
And leave bloody egoes at home..........am hearin the last one was quite an act by one in particular, closely followed by another
Finally........officers can hold position for a MAX of 3 yrs, must resign, but can reapply after 1 yrs absence.
Let's new faces, new ideas, new inthusiasm get involved......mate it's gota be more better than this lifetime perception.
I'm goin down me hole now, coz the bullits are guna be flyin.* [don't give a shit anyway, must have exchangeing of ideas, views etc etc........geez, I could be wrong here, if so I'll opologise ]

am hearin the last one was quite an act by one in particular, closely followed by another
Wot happened Russ, I musta missed it??
If it had been anybody else dave, I mite have taken exception......squabling with you is akin to argueing with a 5 yr old. You sure got selective sight. Dave bird didn't see anything, therefore it was a non event........givis a break. If it comes to believing you, or the two others that conveyed their over view of the event........sorry, you miss out. As to puting me head in the sand...........why join you there.

I got no problem with critisism Ted, I can take it, but I don't like be'n bitched about by some clown who won't say why he's bitchn.
If he's got any balls he'll explain himself, if he won't do that then the least he should do is shutup.
So Russ, wots this 'non event' event thats trouble'n you so much???

Since Birdy may be flying to this next year, i gonna too and so far i've one other to go with me, so if any one else around here wants to join us let me know, good thing is plenty of time to organise things before hand, and when things get closer i'll get in contact with Birdy and arrange to meet him on the way in somewhere and fly the last couple of legs together, i tihnk it would be great to have 5-10 if possible to be flying in over i presume a range (looking at the pic in the gyro news) it would be a great buzz and a great thing for gyros in general, then we could sit back and tally up the total kms covered to get there.
i think we are on for about 1300 kms to get there and then returning a different way, with a couple of stops on the way for preventing a bad case of thirst, :drunk: So surely there are others up this way who wouldnt mind doing the trip lets make it a big one then we've got a arguement for having it up this way again... :poke:

Sonny if your gonna do that, i'll pick you up from the airport if your flying into Townsville and you can have my other machine to fly down in or jump in the car and we can swap and share the flying down, just have to get some one to drive down to take all the ports and stuff, but thats not too hard to organise, if you do get over here it will be an excuse for a party, thinking do i need one. :focus:

Sonny,
I'm presuming the Nationals are over Easter which is from the 14th of April in 2006. If you can get here earlier in the week just in case the weather causes a delay in flight time. Don't bother booking a flight home cause you'll want to stay here.

Hey Geoff,
Do you think we could talk the 'powers that be' to run a timed event at the Nats? Your estimated time from line up to touch down, around a couple of set points including a climb against your actual time? I'll put a trophy up if it can be arranged. No stupid manoeuvers allowed - auto disqualification. Amd to prove you made the set points, you need to spot a significant feature on the ground.

Mate if you only knew!
I got to visit Sydney back in the mid 60's and have been tryin to get back ever sence.
Would it be better to fly to Sydney or Townsville?
I'm thinkin on stayin the month of April so maybe I'll get to visit with some of the folks that caint make it to the flyin. And I"ve gotta meet Russ, he makes me laff.

Why not .. sounds good,
Ted as you'd be aware, some fixed wing flyins have a short course around a set of points - take off level out at 500', around a triangle which incorporates a pass down the runway. Three times around the course and the closest estimated time wins. They usually put a judge at the turning points to make sure the contestants go around and don't cut corners. All within a very close circuit of around 1 kilometre legs. So yeah, what your suggesting wouldn't be that much different - modified to accomodate gyrocopters. Why not suggest it to the power to be then mate, and a trophy 'd have to make it all the more attractive

16-10-2005, 11:25 AM
Sonny, if you flew in to Townsville a few days or week before then you could drive down with us, then i'm sure there would be no problems finding people to put you up for a few day all over the place, that way a lot of your travel/accomadation cost could be cut down, just a thought be good to some one come all the way over just for the nats.

When I was president of the McIntyre Aero Club at Goondiwindi, we ran a multi component course comprising a timed event, and with an observers role thrown in. We gave them access to a WAC map and a ruler and some paper to make their calls on gave them a start point and allocated time, then a bearing and distance alternating with Lat & Long reference and at each point the observers had to decifer the clue and pick the object on the ground. Sent them off at 15 minute intervals, no one came home with full points, some got lost, some got airsick. No one got close to their estimated time ( even the AG pilots came unstuck). Some even tried to define my heritage on return..... but I simply reminded them of the terms of the comp. It was meant to be a 'CHALLANGE'.
Mostly they forgot to add some time at each point to allow for a rate 1 turn to make sure of the observers choice. Every plane had to have an observer, could only enter once and could not fly dangerously. All observation points could be clearly seen at 500 feet and being early summer the thermals in the middle of the day, made it interesting for those who flew low.
I could be an absolute mongrel in setting one of these up. :peace:

Ted, I'm pretty sure that ASRA have the same type of competition. Bit like a rally where you have to follow directions and spot certain things from clues along the way - not sure whether it is timed etc though ..... some one ??

Sonny, We are trying to get the intinerant to come but..... he's being a bit hard headed at the moment. Something about having to stay home and wash dishes was his last lame excuse. I think I'll write to the Darwin mayor and suggest they offer Mrs Cook a four day shopping pass all expenses paid over Easter, and send Bones over there to kidnap him. We'll have him down here before he wakes up and.... we'll have to takes his clothes off him so he doesn't go walk about. Anyway this is the start of a good plan. :pelvic_thrust2:

G'Day Gents
Well I will start work on this end, getting the passport, shots ( I don't wanna give y'all the wog or nothin ) :yikes:, And *what ever else I need.
And ofcourse getting the tickit.
I have been pricing a plane ride and it looks like I'll have to fly into Sydney and go from there. I can get a flite to Brisbane, but it'll have to stop in Auckland and will cost a couple hundred $ more. In the mean time I'll I'll start trying to map out an itenarary. I'll proly need some help with this so
I'll be asking some questions from time to time once I get all the paper work done, I'll let you know for certain.
Thank you for your hospitality. I am looking forward to meeting all you guy's Mr Wozy,Bones Russ the BeefBear, and all. Hmmm as far the Itinerant maybe if Bones and I were to show up on his door step ----well ! :peace: I'd sure like if he had the time for a short camping trip.
Maybe get out to meet Birdy and do a cookout, Heck I bet I could even make a Gowaina taste good.
We'll see what happins between now and then.
Thanx again for the kind offer.
Cheers Y'All

No stupid manoeuvers allowed -
And wot are they Ted??
I recon a better comp would be a 'slow' race.
Who takes the longest to cover a short set corse, with a max alt of 100'.
Afterall, init wot gyros are about, 'low n slow'.?
[ speed n gyros are a recipy for disater.]
Sonnyj
16-10-2005, 07:53 PM
Good one Birdy
At Mentone they had a pylon race. One contestant at a time did a timed course in a figure 8 and whoever was fastest won. There was only one gyro in the air during the race.
Cheers

Birdy we only have four days over Easter, I can imagine you out there inspecting every bloody tree, or beast for brands, ticks, etc idling away doing rate 1 turns , drifting downwind...... and in the mean while the judges are "OUT of BEER" . Just let me check the rules here..... argh yes there she be page 178 para 5 " If judges run dry during the comp, auto disqualification for all entrants" Small print I'll admit but its there in my copy.
Davo, no problem for your concept but lets not make it any longer than the strip and its not to include any preflighting too. Speed can kill Birdy I agree but so too can slowness. ( If you can't outrun my 303 your too slow)

Bones,* *That there boy will online again shortly, lets not give him too much to reply to.* Clothes or no clothes, we'll strap him down to the down wind piano keys.* :evil_laugh:* He'll be able to give us a blow by blow report on all landings.* Hell we could even get him to volunteer as the target for the flour bombings..... bugger the volunteering, lets just make him the target, just for refusing to come on invitation.* :joy:
Wait I've a better idea, why not dress him up in Murray Barker's foral shirt since he liked it that much????

Rito Ted, to make the 'slow race' a bit safer, why not have a comp to see who can drag their tail wheel the fartherest, without touch'n the mains ?
BeefBear
18-10-2005, 05:08 PM
extra points for a dead straight line too??? Birdy I've been thinking that this is a ploy so you don't have to go above 200ft above ground level.

Couple of times I've been half way through a post and the PC died. Only seems to happen on this forum. Go figure.
Anyway :focus: Birdy, that comp you recommended is a no brainer for you anyway.
I have good video of you at Cooma draggin Butterfly's tail wheel for ever.......and ever.
Suggest a comp that you are not already extremely competant at executing. :peace:

Don't remember drag'n your wheel Mitch, musta been sumone else. :evil_laugh:
And as for the 'advantage' you recon i'm supposed to hav, i'll be in the RAF, so no advantage. :shrug_no:
I'm just try'n to cum up with some comps suited to gyros.
Everybody wants to copy the FW blokes with speed races, we should be compeat'n at things that show how much more controlable gyros are compared to the FWers.
Mitch
18-10-2005, 08:01 PM
Birdy, I agree. More interesting events would be a bonus BUT we are still lightyears ahead of our American friends in the comps.
Perhaps you were not dragging the tail wheel but you were with in a 'poofteenth' of doing so. Nose high tail down behind the power curve, holding it off the deck for what seems like forever, certainly covered several hundred yards in that attitude. Great to watch.
Looking forward to going for that ride with you in your Raf and catchin up Mate.
Mitch.

Nationals Events
I'd like to see the carrier deck and spot landings competitions done with a 180 degree turn, close to the touch down point.( for those who want )
That shows the versatility of a gyro. It will certainly be a spectacular event.

Now if this format takes place.............I could be tempted [ geez, why did I say that]
Me new 2 seater MITE be ready by then........could fly in......missis would like that.
But then again others mite get the shits that the dark side is taking over :peace: and make it BORING........rules n rules n rules...............me, how abowt just plain commonsence [ when you have a heap of rules, I forget most of em ] comes with old age......uno......memory bit

No split pin on rear wheel Birdy..that would be a 1/4" AN bolt.
Now the front wheel, well that's a different matter.
I managed to download my video footage from Cooma to CD, the quality drops off dramatically from the digital format to the PC but it tells the story.
