Thanks PB, had a look through the site, not really what im after though a phone call might reveal something that they dont have listed.
Bloody hell noticed the Black Max hyd brake system in the Pacific flyer for a cool $750, and on the website above for only $380 odd, so ol mate selling them is making a pretty good margin ayyyy, the system dont appear too bad, only thing is i would preferr differencal braking, specially on the new one, as it is a Rossco front wheel, so steering by brakes at slow speed would be better i feel, and i didnt notice any drum brakes all disk, surely there are some good drum brakes out there???
Edit: maybe those prices are all USD hmmmm that might explain it abit then......

Hey Bones,
I have spoken with the guy that imports the Black Max brakes (John Washbrooke), and have bought a set for my "soon to be completed" gyro. John has been in the ultralight game for some time, and has numerous articles in Pacific Flyer dating back quite a while. John says they hold better than most he has seen (but then you'd expect him to say that would'nt you).
The system can be set up for differential braking, you just need another master. They also have a (rather clumsy) mod to allow foot brakes. Basically you remove the hand-grip and replace it with a t-piece. You still however end up with the same master, with the tube clamp part.
They don't come with tyres, but the 4-ply 15x6x6 Kendas the Northern Rivers guys use will fit the supplied rims. As to how good they are...I will let you know how they go once my gyro is air-bourne.

Hi Bones, Below is a pic of my gyro fitted with Azusa rims. Both mains are fitted with drums and acctuated via a standard bike brake lever.
Check out the Azusa home page. May help !!!!!

Bones,
what about the disc I've been using off a mountain bike ? They are available in cable , cable/hydraulic ( which is what I have on G 640 ) or full hydraulic . The first cable one I bought was $110 ; the cable/hyd. setup was $ 130 & the totaly hyd was about the same . Thats about $260 - $300 for a pair plus whatever fabricating/machining needed .

Hi Echo, How do they go if they get a bit damp from wet grass etc. I don't mean like going through a puddle. Just wondering. Thanks Des Garvin.

Echo,
What revs do they hold to, the ones on the white machine, after a bit of a mod, i can hold it on the ground still til about 3750, after that it starts to drag through the brakes. the drum ones Birdy has on the feral are better than that i think, i want max holding power.

Brakes and wheels on pocket bikes are nice . Buy the whole bike and you get 2 of everything for $200. Go to the bigger model or the trailbike for a bit more and everything is better again. I've got about 6 of these and the brakes are awesome.I can sell you the brakes off a thumpstar with wave discs if you like. We pulled the motor out for a go kart. Its all brand new unused.I'll email photo if you email address. Ken

Mine are the 5 inch wheels, fitted with Cessna front tyres. There was a guy importing them in to Australia who advertised in the old AUF magazine. Probably cheaper to bring them in now that our dollar is at 85 cents.
Gavin, these drums are protected from wet grass and it wont get to the shoes. I must admit there braking is still not as good as some disc's I've seen. But then again braking is only for taxiing, and not landing. :poke:

Des,
the discs come off a mountain bike , I've seen these guys come downhill lickety split thru mud, dust, water rocks.....etc & are still working at the bottom :dizzy: .The ones I have have fitted on the front will lock up on dirt/grass & just skid along on the tire .
I wouldnt bother, though ,if you can get discs off Capt. Ken , they may be cheapo imports but are fairly good quality .

Buy a copy of Just Bikes. There is a few listed in there. There is a 4 wheel pocket bike with discs for $299. Complete bike, yes, the whole lot, brand new. The bigger 110cc upwards pocket bikes have bigger and nicer wheels and nice hydraulic discs. Ken
