After having watched both the Hunter video and the gallery photo's of the Hawk, I was left wondering why do they need such a dramatic angle of attack in lift off or landing modes? Is this a necessary flight characteristic of these machines or a simple case of incorrect procedure by the pilots?

I have also noticed a number of american video'swhere the pilots fly their gyro's onto the strips, like normal aircraft, unlike the drop and stop landings we are being taught here. This gives rise to the question, do we have similar statistics to other countries for tip over incidents?

Hello Ted, I see that others have been intimidated by this thread, but fear not son, for I shall have a crack at it.

Many of the american video's are of ex fixed wing pilots who carry over bad habits of fly on landings rather than the stop and drop type we are taught to complete. Landing on the tail wheel of a gyro can create a situation whereby a gyro could tip over, so should be avoided where possible.

One should try to land upon the mains.
