I'm after any thoughts on what to look for here guys.
I have in my shed at the moment a gyro with a ea 81 turboed motor, now up until lately it was thought to be working just fine, then the other day it was being tested and wouldnt get the max revs, so upon investigation it was found the the turbo was kinda stuck while the motor was hot, though upon cooling down it seems to be fine with just a small rough spot, i'm in the process of stripping it down for him, was just wondering if anyone has had this problem or heard of it before. The turbo has both oil feed and water cooling feed all the time so it shouldnt have seised. The funny part is with the motor off through the exhaust port it can be spun easily by the fingers, as soon as the motor is fired up it spins for about 2-5 secs then stops and even with full revs it just sits there, turn off the motor again and it can be spun again by the fingers, the only thing i can think of is there is something in behind the fan that jams it up when the motor is started.
any ideas gents???

It sounds like the turbine shaft thrust bearing and seal is the culprit. Are you able to get a ohaul kit for it? We have a tuff time getting the kits here.

I should be able to get parts its only a garret turbo and they are fairly common, thou it may be cheaper to get a recon one..

Bones,

Is the air pathway restricted? Also just because we can spin a turbo with our fingers doesn't necessarily mean it'll remain spinning at higher speeds, so I think Sonny may be right on this one.
