I have a rotax 2.62 gearbox, done about 3,000 hours, cogs are okay. Had trouble with the thing doing the oil seal on the main shaft too regularly. [the one coming from the motor]
If you are interested, make an offer.

yea brian........heard of that problem B4, was traced to a faulty rear crankshaft bearing, those boxes [ 2.62 ] bolted onto a ea81 soob were a damn good combo.
You won't have probs selling that for sure.............

how would a 72" warp run on that 2.62 box

Ben,
I had a 72" warp Drive on a 2.62 Rotax then changed it to 76" using a Rosco hub , made it heaps better ( as long as you have the room above the keel )

That was the setup on my gyro pic to the left.

Rob Patroney is saying his 72" wide chord is better than a 76" WD. I have designed clearance for 76" as the mustering folk seem to have proven prop diameter to be very important.

What say we all?

Aussie Paul.

I'm not questioning what you say Paul but only, probably 8 weeks ago I was talking to Rob re a new prop and I reckoned he said that his prop wouldnt be any better than the WD yet Russ reckons his new Rob wide chord was really great etc.

I did buy a new WD and I'm so glad I did as its really performing great and is delivering more thrust than the old prop so it shows that after 4,000 hours, a prop does detriorate a bit.!!

hey brian..........i'm a bit confused here,

i fitted a patroney wide chord to my ej22, a 72" prop, box ratio was 2.4 to 1 and it performed just great.

you fitted a "WD"........was it a 72", or was it a 76", and what box ratio were you.

the package of engine/ box/prop size dictates the performance.

just trying to ensure we is comparing apples with apples.........cheers

right now i have 62" wd on it in the spring i'm replacing it with a 72"wd should i change my redrive gears too, i'm running 2.16 to 1???? what cant i expect in the way of performance gains ????

brian..was speaking with rob last night, brought up your prop query,

he says, that his "sort of copy" of a "WD" does not out perform a "WD", it's equivilent to...........

his "wide chord" profile prop, is a different story altogether, and comparing the "WD" to the "wide chord" is an unfair comparison completely.

my ej22 was fitted with his "wide chord 72 inch" it was brilliant, at 2.4 ratio

my latest machine is having an ev25 ,[ej25] with another new designed prop by rob, it's 72" but a totally different profile/shape etc, never been done B4.
The plan is to reduce prop noise, but retain the prop performance. It was test flown the other day on robs machine, he reports absolutely no prop noise, under 5100 engine revs, just exhaust noise. So now he's modifying his exhaust to see just how quiet the whole package is.
Now if your engine produces max power at 5500 about, then pitch your prop to get that , but then you start to get the prop "bark"
The way he is advancing with props, we'll all be complaining about rotor noise next........... :giggle:

Thanks Russ, I apparently confused Rob as I was after a 'wide chord prop , anyway, I have a Suby 2.2 driving a 76 inch WD prop with a Rosco hub through a rotax gearbox [2.62 ratio]

I have mine pitched tp produce a genuine 50 / 55 knots at 3800 revs and the suby uses about 15.7 liters per hour at that which is reasonably economical for what I want. I have seen 5000 revs but I'm not confident about the gearbox to use those revs unless I have a problem with the ground, even on takeoff, I only use about 4400 revs and back off once airborne to 4200.
The new greabox has done a few hours now without any problems and must be due for a new bearing now.

Its a pity Robs props wont fit in the same holders as a WD. Or doesnt make them out to 76 inch as thats the way to go.

I tried a 74 inch IVO and didnt like it one bit.
