was looking at pics of a few gyros & thinking of problem I have had to fix in the past. the problem was the clearance between nose wheel & the support hoop/forks it all looked good on the workshop floor 2-3mm clearance but a test of the wheel/tyre in the lathe showed that the tyre grew by 3-4mm causing it to act as a brake at high ground speed ie. takeoff nil wind.the same quick test may benefit some gyro builders out there hope this helps also calculate wheel rpm @ takeoff speed and you will be shocked the one I tested was up round 1700rpm @ 60knt/100kph. ps this is not to be math quiz I know this is ball park stuff but the 3 stuffed tyres & wear on hoop/fork was real.
