startin this motor is a proper b1!ch,

some times she just fires and some times i think if i was trying to get somwhere flying id have to stay at home.

talking to a mate of the fella i bought it off, it seems the real reasone he sold it is the little fella couldnt start it once he put the gearbox on.

now the battery is charged, plenty of feul(even tried aerostart) washed the carby out in petrol and still nothing but a sore arm from tryin !!

the gearbox is without any oportunity to put a starter on it that i can see(dammit).
the ones off the shelf are too dear for me at the moment.

any ideas?

Howdy Hoody
Well the problem you describe sounds intermitant. So it's probably electrical.
You should start from the begining and check evey thing from the hot wire feeding the ignition switch to the module, coil and distributor and all wireing in between.
Now if you don't have electronic ignition, have a look at the points, clean and regap, or replace them.
I hope this helps
Cheers

Hoody,

There's a bit of a nack to turning them over with the redrive on them. It gave me the utter :anger: shits so I spent the money and put the flywheel and starter on. Now 1st time every time, well worth the dollars

I take it you've got electric fuels pumps ?? If so turn the ignition on, watch the carby level fill, turn the ignition off.

Flick the choke on and pull it over a couple of times with the ignition off.

Flick the ignition on, a bit of throttle ( you'll have to work that one out) , give it a good pull and get that hand out.

If that doesn't work give up and have a  Better have a few more cold for when Bones get there

cant be to difficult as i got to fire after about 5 goes and it hadnt started for all those years, :evil_laugh:, i'll let in on a secret its all to do with the compreesion stroke of the motor, abit like starting a bike, gently wind it over till you feel the compression, then take it back a poofteenth, then give it her, heres an idea put some of that black shit back in the tank, that might have been the secret. :poke:
otherwise it loks like i can actually walk again now, well kinda, so next week might be a goer, i suppose i'll bring me own drink since as you you like burbon so much
